Rohit Sharma spearheaded India into their second triumph in the T20 World Cup and in the process became the only player to be a part of all the editions of the tournament. The Indian captain didn’t find his scoring boots in the grand finale as he got out for just nine but once again his captaincy showed why his entire team believed in him.
However, for every single player, even the greatest of the world, there are minor superstitions that have always taken the centerstage whether it’s putting the left pads on first or batting with the same bat. Acknowledging India’s win, Wimbledon’s official Instagram handle posted a collage of Rohit Sharma and Novak Djokovic, juxtaposed to each other, underscoring the two legends of their respective sport and their proclivity of tasting the grass before the big game.
Just to throw in a bit of context, Djokovic linked the sudden tasting of grass which actually tasted amazing as per him with a tradition that he would very religiously carry on everytime he claims the golden silverware. Sharma, however, didn’t have a tradition as such but then players being at their very best, pull off the weirdest of tricks and the world takes notice.
In an Instagram post, Wimbledon likened the similarity between the two superstars, with a caption that read, “Rohit Sharma and Novak Djokovic” with a handshaking emoji in between. The world absolutely loved it as they could see their favorite, doing the smallest of things, which is an incredible tribute to how they keep themselves close enough to the roots.
Rohit Sharma started the T20 World Cup on a blaze of glory with an unbeaten half-century against Ireland, after India lost Virat Kohli early. Despite finding himself at the receiving end of some sloppy numbers against Pakistan, USA and Afghanistan, Sharma didn’t give in.
He did show glimpses of his brilliance against Bangladesh before bringing out his very best against the mighty Australia where he clobbered an excellent 92 while following that up with another incredible fifty against England as India found their way to the grand finale of the tournament.
