Kylian Mbappe has returned to Paris Saint-Germain’s group for pre-season training amid his ongoing contract dispute with the club.
PSG posted a video on Instagram showing Mbappe reuniting with Neymar, but the 22-year-old striker has informed the club that he has no plans to sign a new contract and wants to run down his current deal, which ends next summer.
However, PSG has informed Mbappe that he must either sign a new contract or be sold this summer, as they don’t want to lose him for anything. Mbappe has been linked with Real Madrid, who are reportedly considering a €200 million (£171m/$225m) bid this summer.
But the Spanish club may wait until next summer to sign the superstar on a free transfer.
Mbappe’s return to training has been low-key, given his contract situation. PSG will face Inter and Cerezo Osaka in pre-season games, and Mbappe is expected to play a part in those matches.
The Frenchman has been one of the brightest prospects in world football since bursting onto the scene with Monaco, and his performances at PSG have only added to his reputation. Mbappe has scored 132 goals in 171 appearances for PSG, helping the club to three Ligue 1 titles and a Champions League final appearance.
Despite his success at PSG, Mbappe has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants known for their ability to attract the world’s top players. PSG is determined to keep hold of Mbappe, but the situation is complicated by the player’s desire to leave the club when his contract expires next summer.
It remains to be seen if PSG can convince Mbappe to sign a new deal or if Real Madrid will make their move for the young star this summer.
