Ex-coach of Serena Williams assesses Novak Djokovic’s chances at Wimbledon

Serena Williams’ childhood coach Rick Macci has highlighted that Novak Djokovic is “definitely the favorite” to win this year’s Wimbledon tournament edition.Djokovic, who lifted his first Wimbledon title in 2011, now has seven Wimbledon titles in his collection.

Also, Djokovic hasn’t lost a match at Wimbledon since 2017 as he will be bidding to win his fifth consecutive title at The Championships this year. “Remember, he has won the last 4 Wimbledons. He is definitely the favorite.

The guy is going down as the greatest male player to ever hold a racket. 389 weeks he was No 1 (Are you kidding me?), 23 Grand Slam titles, 10 Australian, 7 Wimbledon, 3 US Open, 3 French, 94 singles titles, and he couldn’t play because he never got the vaccine.

Maybe if he’d have had one more shot, he would’ve had a lot more shots at slams,” Macci told FirstSportz.

Macci backs Djokovic to lift another Wimbledon title After missing the 2022 Australian Open and US Open due to his vaccine status, Djokovic is two-out-two at the Grand Slam level this year.Following his triumphs at this year’s Australian Open and French Open, Djokovic improved to record-breaking 23 Grand Slam titles.Macci believes Djokovic is not done yet when it comes to adding more Grand Slam success to his name.“The guy could’ve had 26 by now.

No one delivered from awkward positions like the Djoker. He is not done yet. Wimbledon’s gonna be tough, there are some guys but he is definitely the favorite,” Macci noted.Going into this year’s Wimbledon, many have Djokovic as the absolute favorite for the title.

If Djokovic wins this year’s Wimbledon, he will put himself in a good position to also break one of the most unique tennis records.Since Rod Laver in 1969, there hasn’t been an ATP player that managed to win all four Grand Slams in the same year.It remains to be seen if Djokovic can achieve that feat in 2023.
