Audi’s apprentices have worked their magic on the beloved A2 for its 25th anniversary, giving it a full e-tron electric makeover for one unexpected restomod.
It’s no secret that we’re rather fond of the Audi A2, after all we included it in our list of hot collector cars back in 2022 and have since held a bit of an obsession for this ultra-efficient and forward-thinking hatchback. Well, it seems Audi’s apprentices share our admiration for the plucky Peter Schreyer-designed A2, because for the model’s 25th anniversary, they’ve given it a full electric makeover. Meet the A2 e-tron!
While it looks like it just rolled off the set of Tron, the relatively unchanged exterior of the A2 is a real testament to the timelessness of the original design. New headlights and taillights give the A2 e-tron a futuristic character, incorporating Audi’s expertise in LED technology, while the front intakes have also been re-sculpted for a more contemporary look.
The sides have similarly been gently honed for 2024, with Audi’s apprentices shaving off the door trim and handles for a cleaner side-profile, while the wing mirrors have been substituted for even more aerodynamic camera stalks. Inside, the cabin has been updated with modern cloth-trimmed seats and a new steering wheel. Our favourite detail? The new rear wing, which incorporates a full-width light bar.
Sadly for all the A2-lovers out there, this design study will remain a one-off, and there’s no word on the details for this concept’s electric powertrain. However, there’s no smoke without fire, and maybe, just maybe we can expect a return of the A2 badge in the not-too-distant future!
